Homeschooling in Illinois

Members of Team Orion Archery are students ranging from 4th-12th grade.  Members ot Team Orion Archery are homeschooled students.  In the State of Illinois, each homeschool is looked upon as a private school. Many attend private schools in our state. We happen to attend one with a much lower teacher to student ratio.

The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) permits all schools to participate.  In order to actually participate we needed to PULL TOGETHER so we could meet the few other requirements such as team diversity of gender and have sufficient numbers to join in the fun.  No different than any other school, TOA uses the NASP as a part of our Physical Education requirements.

In the Southwestern Region of Illinois there is a rather impressive network of homeschools.  Thanks in part to the social media, many have successfully connected together and share much of their resources.  Homeschooled students gather together often for group opportunities such as an apple picking field trip, a St. Louis Zoo Homeschoolers class, STEM programs, 4-H programs, robotics programs, art study and so much more.  While our public school counterparts manage an outside activity a couple of times per year, we generally manage to engage in a multitude of opportunities.

Thus comes this newest adventure!  Team Orion Archery is for homeschooled students to develop life skills that may help them in the future.  While we may indeed hit the target, it is the philosophy of Team Orion Archery that it is more about the process than the score on the sheet.

The drop down tabs on this menu bubble will display a peek into the life of TOA members.
